Education

I have a BA from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA with an emphasis in Creative Writing

Experience

My English proficiency is impeccable. I want to work closely with people to find and encourage passions. I want my students to learn to love and enjoy the subjects they may even find difficult to pursue. The pedagogy I have learned at college is informed by the idea that a good education is fostered through learning on both sides of the delineation between teacher and the taught. I feel that learning can only happen in an environment where that boundary is altered to allow for mutual learning in integrative, dialogical and creative ways and that learning should foster independence and critical thinking. Learning should be concurrent, to teach is to be taught. Otherwise it propagates the system of oppression and control that already exists. In a world of competition, I want to use uplifting inspiration for collaborative and collective advancement through a consensus, based approach. I've learned to engender creativity, which is different from mere manufacturing, which can often be the reproducing of what is already produced. I am currently writing a novel about a subaltern. The plot/theme centers around a true proletarian, a porter at a railway station who goes to the Big City, Hyderabad, has premonitions about a particular Maoist rebel and telepathic conversations with a Guru. It is told through the gaze of a detached, omniscient narrator and is of the magic-realist vein. My poetry deals with questions of identity, sociocultural commentary, philosophical speculation. I have perused classes in sociology of globalization and sociology of religion. I have dabbled in psychology classes including studies of Freud, Jung, Deleuze and Guattari, amongst others. I have done several presentations and analytical papers on and including the Tamil independence struggles in Sri Lanka, the Maoist rebels in India, the WTO protests in Seattle in 1999, the struggles of the Zapatistas in Chiapas, Mexico, an ethnography of a courtroom proceeding and various prose and poetry readings received which much aplomb.
