Experience
I have vast experience as a mentor and a tutor with students in a wide range of ages. My work as a mentor has included children as young as kindergarten up through high school. Currently, I mentor an after school Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program for girls. I also mentor a Science outreach program for high school students. When I am tutoring, I set goals for my students that are achievable in order to help bolster their confidence in the subject, and as a means for me to measure the progress in our work. I believe in providing the tools my students need to promote independent learning. I am capable of tutoring many subjects, including: Math (Elementary through Algebra 2), English (College Essay), Reading, Writing, and Science (Biology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology); however, I find the most enjoyment in tutoring Math and Science. I completed both my B.A. and Ph.D. in Public Health. I earned my B.A. at Johns Hopkins University, and my Ph.D. from the University of Washington. In my free time, I enjoy traveling and experiencing the outdoors through hiking, kayaking, and skiing. I attempt to create balance in my adventures with reading classic novels and popular fiction.
