Experience
Three years of experience as a professional tutor in English and math, my college years of peer-tutoring participation, and my voracious enjoyment of reading create the foundation of my tutoring sessions. Not to mention, I grew up the eldest of four in my family, so I have a lot of experience with kids! I've always loved to read and I enjoy sharing my passion with my students. A couple of my favorite books include "If Beale Street Could Talk" by James Baldwin and "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" by Milan Kundera. Currently, I serve with AmeriCorps at City Year school in Seattle/King county at Concord International Elementary as a mentor and tutor. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Spanish in 2004 from Claremont McKenna College. During school, my friends and I learned a lot from each other in study groups. This year, I will commence another year in a new role of Team Leader with City Year. Next, I plan to serve as a volunteer with the Peace Corps (focus on youth development). The Peace Corps offers a plenitude of international locations for volunteers, and I have narrowed down my choice to four options where I could further develop my skills. My hobbies include knitting, exercise, and spending quality time with my Netflix account.
