I have a bachelor's degree in engineering from Iowa State University. Engineering was a natural path for me because it involves using math and critical thinking to find solutions to complex problems. I recently began a job with Habitat for Humanity in Seattle, where I work as Construction Volunteer Lead. I also spend time preparing for the Graduate Record Examination, as I plan to submit my application for graduate school next year. Seattle meets my need to take part in a variety of outdoor activities. At Iowa State, I was part of the university's ultimate Frisbee club team. Now I am looking for a team in Seattle. When I am able to be outside, I am happiest. My favorite activities are hiking, camping, and backpacking, and I have added rock climbing to my set of interests. My tutoring philosophy is centered on the belief that my purpose is to provide additional guidance that fits the student's learning needs and style. Teachers obviously are essential for students to learn, but that is not always the best way for the student. A tutor can often make all the difference by being patient, listening, answering questions, and showing different ways to learn. I believe every student can learn any subject. The key is find the way that works for them.
