Experience

Spanish Spanish is my native language, learned at home before going to school and then concurrently learned at the same pace as I learned English from a public school system. In my early professional years, I taught middle school math and science in English as well as in Spanish. I served to translate official school documents and as translator for countless parent/teacher conferences. My time spent working for a museum that focused on Latin American Art, served to put my translation experience into practice again as I edited catalogs and public material that went to print. My entire adult life has been spent tutoring in many subjects but primarily teaching all levels of Spanish. It is my forte and I understand language acquisition at all levels in terms of grammatical nuances as well as phonetic obstacles. I have strategies that open doors and have helped my clients to assimilate much more readily than working alone or from a systematic program designed for the general public. English I have done the editing for print publications in the past as well as taught English one-on-one for years. ESL/ESOL English is my second language and I was "FEPed" (designated as Fluent English Proficient) when I was in 4th grade via the public school system. I've since taught various subject matter in both English and Spanish, plus I've taught the languages themselves to a wide variety of clientele. Drawing In high school, one of my paintings received honorable recognition, and three of them competed and were exhibited in local museums. I received a Medal of Merit in Art. I received my AA in Architectural Drafting which included a two-year program. The program required formal drafting, free-hand rendering, and perspective presentation drawings. I continued my education in Architectural Design and Art History, where requirements included studio classes in Life Drawing, Still Life Drawing, Industrial Design, and painting. I am currently an Art Historian and write critiques for artists and local galleries.

Hobbies

I received my BA from CSU, Long Beach, in Art History. I was awarded a language-study scholarship to Florence, Italy during my senior year, so I have experience in language acquisition as an adult student as well as instructor. I served as President of my chapter's International Honor Society for two years in a row. I believe in whole-learning. I don't believe that memorization is the way to learning, instead preferring to understand and connect with the subject in a way that allows a bridge to be built and the context to be fully accessed. Education continues to be my passion, be it by imparting what knowledge I have or in the continued acquisition via books, documentaries, and travel. I currently participate in two Spanish groups and one book club and am looking to expand my knowledge of local history, art, and architecture so as to guide tours through the greater Seattle area.
