Experience
I have wanted to become a teacher for as long as I can remember, and I have now narrowed down that passion to teaching science -- especially biology! I received my undergraduate degree in biology at Macalester College, then received my Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Washington in Seattle. I volunteer with the Seattle Aquarium, which helps hone my biology skills. I didn't major in marine biology, but I have learned quite a bit about it while volunteering at the aquarium, and I love to talk about it! I also teach biology to non-majors at Everett Community College, which has been very rewarding. While my degrees are in the sciences, I am very passionate about pedagogy, which is the study of how students learn and how they can be taught best. I attend pedagogy conferences, and I also read journals and take part in clubs on the subject. As a tutor, I can teach a wide variety of sciences, not just biology. I am capable of tutoring chemistry, anatomy, and physiology. I can also help my students with elementary through high school mathematics, including geometry, addition and subtraction, and algebra. I like to help students prepare for standardized and college tests, and I also offer homework support. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy crocheting, knitting, and sewing.
