Private tutor in Seattle, WA

Education

Seattle University Masters in Teaching Candidate: Expected Graduation 2019. For Elementary Education. I am currently in the program now, and am available evenings Wed-Fri, and weekends. My program at SU is very intensive, and I will be commuting to different schools for student teaching "in the field." At the end of this program, I will be a certified WA teacher. Double Major in Art and Psychology at University of California, Santa Cruz.

Experience

I have the most experience tutoring in math, and was hired by my high school to be a math tutor. I also have been tutoring math privately since I was about 15. I have signed on with 3 middle school math clients in the last 6 months, and 3 students for SAT Prep (since I moved to Seattle in January 2018.) I have passed the NES examinations for Elementary Education and for Middle Level Math. I would love to do individual art lessons in drawing or painting. My current art portfolio is maddieamelialewis.com. My teaching philosophy is based on a mindset of growth and effort. Everyone can learn something, if they have the proper guidance and put in effort. It can be more difficult for people to learn things that don't mesh with their interests, but that can be overcome in time. My job is to help someone have confidence in their ability to learn, and give them the tools to do so. Reviews from clients (2018): "Madi and my son connect so well. I see him eager to listen to what she has to say and learn from it. I even overheard him telling her that they, "had time for one more [problem]." "Today was a great 2nd session. S is learning her basic 5th grade math and has homework to complete before her next session." "Hi Madi, thanks so much for working with J today. She’s having a good experience. I was asked to rate it, and I hope my finger hit the 5 stars on my phone."

Hobbies

Outside of academia, I am striving to become a professional artist. I enjoy reading, video games, exploring new places, spending time in the outdoors, and spending time with my friends. I am incredibly interesting in the fine arts, am currently teaching myself guitar, and am in love with teaching. I have a tuxedo cat. I would like to travel the world someday... so far I have been to Korea, Japan, Paris, and Italy. I am headed to France for the last two weeks of August. I believe that getting out and experiencing other ways of life can help promote tolerance and understanding between cultures.
