Education

I'm a current Substitute and Summer Teacher at local private high schools. I only teach high school Math and Physics, but as such I know the material inside and out. I offer a money-back guarantee on the first session to make sure that I'm a good fit for your student's academic support. _____________________________________ BS in Physics from Harvey Mudd College, 2006. Concentration in Astrophysics. Some graduate work at the University of Washington in Atmospheric Science. I actually went to high school locally at University Prep. I've also been honored to be both a National Merit Scholar, and an Eagle Scout.

Experience

SAT: 750 Math, 710 Verbal GRE: 800 Quantitative, 640 Verbal (Equivalent to 180 and 160 respectively in the updated GRE) I've spent the last few years working as a substitute teacher at a local private high school. I teach classes for all levels of high school Math (Algebra 2 through Honors Calculus) and Physics (Normal and Honors). I also teach non-remedial math courses there during the summer. It's because of this that I know the material inside and out, and I have tons of experience conveying it to students, both those that struggle and those looking to get an edge up in their studies. While I was in Graduate School I found that I was the only person in my group that enjoyed teaching as a TA more than writing papers, so I took every opportunity I could to teach classes or tutor other students. Before grad school I was a tutor with Sylvan and back in high school I'd spend my summers showing off exhibits at the Pacific Science Center. Ever since I was a kid I've been fascinated by Math and Science and when I teach I bring that energy with me. I remember the issues that plagued me when I was a student and I utilize them to make sure my students don't get left behind or confused. My goal when I teach is not only to cover the material, but to convey the underlying concepts such that the student has the tools needed for future study.

Hobbies

I'm a huge dork at heart and I spend a lot of my free time playing board games with friends, or designing my own. I play computer games as well which actually is quite useful for relating to students. I've got a couple of creative projects under my belt as well including working with a non-profit to design a STEM after-school activity program, and designing a cell-phone utility app for other educators.
