Education

Seattle University, Spanish and International Studies Majors I studies at la Universidad de Granada in Granada, Spain for one summer, at la Universidad Iberoamericana in Puebla, Mexico for one quarter, and at la Universidad de las Americas Puebla in Puebla, Mexico for one semester. I completed an internship working in Spanish and English at the U.S. Embassy in Panama, and have also completed rural development research in Mexico.

Experience

In November 2012 I started formally tutoring Spanish. I enjoy tutoring because I am passionate about Spanish and can explain well to a non-native speaker the best methods for mastering a new language. Because I learned from the ground up and had no prior Spanish language experience 8 years ago when I started learning, I'm fully aware of the frustrations and difficulties one experiences in learning a new language. I believe there should be a greater emphasis on speaking and comprehension of conversations in language tutoring and instruction, rather than just reading, writing and completing assigned work. It can take a lot of time and practice for one to be able to master even the simplest techniques in Spanish, thus I adapt to any learner's speed so that they gain a thorough understanding of the topics before moving on. I can develop unique lesson plans for each student I work with to ensure consistent progress and reinforcement of the language. In high school I took Spanish 1, 2, 3, and AP Spanish 4. I received a 4 on the College Board AP Spanish test in 2012. In college I majored in Spanish and lived and studied in Panama and Mexico. In May 2015 I took the DELE Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language and received a C1 "Effective Operational Efficiency" certification. I graduated cum laude from Seattle University's Spanish major in June 2015. I now exercise my Spanish skills working in Seattle at a private immigration law firm as a bilingual paralegal. I speak, write, and read in Spanish daily.
