Matt Z.
Private tutor in Seattle, WA
Education
Seattle University (1998), Bachelor's degree in journalism
Experience
Have served a client for University Tutor (July 31, 2014). Spent a summer abroad teaching English in a Korean church community (1998). Spent multiple years as a freelance English tutor to a mixture of Japanese, Chinese and Korean students. Spent one summer (2012) tutoring Chinese grade-school students online, via skype. Graduate of Seattle University and a journalism major from its Department of Communications, within the College of Arts and Sciences (class of 1998). I want to be a tutor because I have plenty of experience as a writer and want to be able to share what I've learned... not just in classroom settings, but in my work as a freelance writer. Current writer and editor for Bloguin, a sports website. Former writer for several other sports websites and publications since 2000.

Hobbies
Substantial interest in sports, current events, and public affairs (a news junkie who would have a natural connection with students interested in seeking careers in journalism or, if not that, politics and other forms of work that would involve cross-boundary communication and, perhaps, social outreach). I want to teach writing not just for its own sake, but as a skill that enables students to feel empowered about how they can use their writing ability to make a career for themselves, to serve other people, or (ideally) both.
