Private tutor in Seattle, WA

Education

Yale University B.A. in English, Western Reserve Academy (high school)

Experience

I have tutored ISEE, SAT and other verbal test preparation. I am a National Merit Scholar (680 M/720 V) and took AP English and History in high school. I am a tutor because I love working with young people and teaching, especially writing. I am especially good with highly sensitive, gifted, creative and special needs students. I am highly intuitive in my approach and create a warm, safe rapport with students that takes into account interests, personality and learning styles. I use my creativity to connect deeply with students and encourage them to express themselves and learn to be confident and shine. I have been successful with ASD students, those with dyslexia, as well as others with emotional and motivational challenges. I am great at helping students release their stress and learn to relax and trust themselves.

Hobbies

I choreograph and perform dance and performance art and love the arts. I enjoy being active outdoors, going to movies, meditation, yoga, and travel. While living abroad in Seoul, Korea, for several years, (where I taught English conversation to students of all levels, from elementary to university students to adults, including business people) I travelled throughout Asia as well as Western Europe. I enjoy talking about art, culture, where people come from, and the similarities and differences between cultures. While in Korea, I also danced and performed and worked at some amazing international arts festivals where I met artists and people from around the world. All of this exploration helps me understand how rich, diverse and changing our global community is and how much we need creativity! I coach people to trust their own voices and find their own creative self expression and I believe we all have extremely valuable gifts to offer one another. My success with several students with Asperger's and others with special needs and cultural identity issues is the result of my very intuitive, creative approach. I am a strong advocate of each individual's unique perspective needing to be heard and accepted. This approach has led to strong positive results with all of the students I have worked with.
