Experience
I have a bachelor's degree in math from Bates College, and also earned a certificate to teach secondary math. As a college student, I tutored my peers in math and writing, and I had the opportunity to teach in the classroom and as a tutor on campus. I have additional teaching experience with an independent school for summer sessions and at an experiential education school, where I was able to mentor students on backpacking trips. I enjoy tutoring students in math because I believe that is a powerful tool to help students develop learning skills. Math requires creativity in the problem-solving process as well as problem-solving skills. I help students by explaining concepts directly, and I also guide students through solving math problems by asking questions as they attempt to solve problems. This helps to lead the student towards the correct answer and solidifies their understanding of the material. I'm looking forward to tutoring students in algebra, calculus one through three, differential equations, geometry, multivariable calculus, trigonometry, linear algebra, physics, finite math, and test preparations for related sections of the SAT, PSAT, AP exams, and others. In my free time, I enjoy playing music, carpentry, skiing, backpacking, and theater.
