Experience
I believe in creating an active learning environment where student participation is a requirement. I believe that this allows students to achieve their best work. When students are active in the learning process, they are able to better take in the knowledge presented to them. I think that learning the material and gaining the knowledge, is better than simply memorizing information. I strive to help my students move beyond memorization and into retaining knowledge. Since I am a recent graduate, I have the memories of my struggles as a student fresh in my mind. I am now able to use those memories to help place myself in the student's shoes and to better understand where they are in the learning process. I have tutored in a vast array of subjects; however, I feel that the sciences are where I excel. I am passionate about tutoring in Math, Microbiology, Biology, and Chemistry. I earned my Bachelor of Science from the University of Washington, Seattle, in General Biology. After graduation, I began tutoring at Highline Community College. I have also found myself volunteering at local hospitals to grow my experiences in the profession of healthcare. Outside of my work and volunteering, I like to play soccer or take walks at the beach.
