My post-high school career began with Whatcom Community College where I earned my associate's degree. From there, I worked toward earning a political science degree. I then got my juris doctor from California's Chapman Law School, specializing in taxation and business law. Most recently, I earned my Latin Legum Magister in taxation from the University of Washington. Growing up in Washington, I started helping other students at the age of 17. My passion for teaching was realized, and I also recognized my innate talent. I continued to tutor during law school, mentoring university students in the areas of literature, English, psychology, and other diverse topics. I draw my philosophy for tutoring from an author I truly admire who divulged that being able to teach is founded on a pair of principles. The first principle is that tutoring takes a special, innate instinct to tap into how a student interprets information. It's up to the tutor to explain the information in a style the student can relate to. Secondly, the author stressed the need for enthusiasm. When a tutor feels passionate about a topic, it's contagious to the student.I'd like to add that I think it's important for students to be motivated to look at topics in a more insightful way. Memorizing stats doesn't always mean that students comprehend the true meaning of the material. When I'm not tutoring, I can be found playing sports, traveling, and playing board games with friends.
