Experience
I love literature. That is evidenced by my BFA and MA in creative writing. I enjoy writing poetry, both fiction and non-fiction, and essays. After graduate school, I worked at the University's writing center tutoring students. I found I truly loved tutoring and helping students learn so much that I made tutoring my career. My love of writing extends into my tutoring. I feel it is imperative for students to learn the value of writing precisely and accurately, passionately and powerfully. The skill of expressing oneself explicitly is vital for all people. It is not only important in the written word, but in the way that you express yourself in day-to-day interactions. I love to help a student express themselves while still following the guidelines of the English language. I have several different methods I use for variety and to tailor the sessions to the students. I make sure to ask students questions that will prod them to think outside the box and tap into their creativity, while still paying attention to the particulars of their writing. I enjoy working with students on the mechanics of grammar, writing descriptive college essays, and learning how to effectively edit their writing. I also enjoy tutoring in various other subjects such as American and European history, psychology, government and politics, and geography, to name a few. I also thrive on helping students prepare for their standardized tests and college entrance exams. While I am not tutoring students, I am enjoying watching films, basketball games, and cooking.
