I am a former Language Arts teacher, with experience with grades 6-12, AP, Honors, and regular classes. I helped develop curriculum for one of the top districts in the state for reading and writing at the high school level. Working with students from incredibly diverse backgrounds, I am able to quickly assess where you are, your specific needs, and help you achieve your goals. I am also aware of the requirements for success in high school and in college, and am able to teach the elements of writing in ways that can help you with organizing your ideas, and expressing them in an appropriate tone. I have a Bachelors of English Literature from SPU, Summa Cum Laude; a residency teaching certificate, and substitute teach in Shoreline, North Shore, and Highline school districts.

Experience

I specialize in English Writing and Essay Coaching for High School, College, and Career. I have tutored in the Seattle area since 2006, taught grades 9-12, substitute taught grades 6-12. Continuously since 1993, I have helped people with essays for college entrance, letters of recommendation, letters of application, resume production, college essays, and writing support. I taught in Snoqualmie School District for 3 years, at Garfield High School for 1 year. I have training in AP Literature, and have taught AP Literature as part of my residency. Because I am a current substitute, I also have current background checks and fingerprints in place. I am also adept at mindfulness techniques, am in a Feldenkrais program, and am in a yoga teacher training.

Hobbies

I play piano and guitar, sing; work on wooden and fiberglass boats; practice yoga, Feldenkrais, Ballet; I like crossword puzzles and sudoku; I hike Bandera Mountain, Mount Si, and hopefully the Washington leg of the Pacific Crest Trail. I love writing, and specifically, I love helping people find ways to express themselves that will gain them access to the world--college, business. Writing is thinking, and it is one of my hobbies to write, and encourage writing (and analytical thinking) in others. I have been a Graphic Designer and business consultant for local businesses, as well as designing posters, brochures, and taking original photographs for businesses on the Penninsula including Olympic Performace Group--a non-profit dance company.
