Experience
Through tutoring, I am able to feel like I have made a positive impact in people's lives. The smiles and gratitude I receive from my students, after helping them overcome their challenges, feels rewarding to me. Growing up, I hated going to school, especially when I had to sit through math class - a subject that, in high school, I found pointless. It wasn't until I joined the Army, that I realized I wasn't being stimulated intellectually, and I desired to be back in an academic setting.Upon my departure from the Army, I enrolled in South Puget Sound Community College and continued my studies. I took a college algebra course and ended up loving every minute of it. It was demanding, and it took a lot of effort and hard work to complete, but I found myself wanting to know every intricate detail about the material we covered. It was not until I put in time and hard work to understand the content, that I began to excel in mathematics. It is now my favorite subject.I eventually received a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Washington in Seattle, in 2013, after changing my major from biochemistry in my junior year. I now do research related to sensorimotor neural engineering, and have been recently accepted into a Ph.D. program in Applied Mathematics at the University of Washington.
