Education
I began my college career at Alaska Pacific University where I was part of a dual credit system in which I received credit for both my senior year off high school and my freshman year of college. I then transferred to the University of Oregon, where I received my undergraduate degree in Political Science. Now I am in my second year of law school at Seattle University School of Law.
Experience
At the University of Oregon, I tutored collegiate level student-athletes in multiple subjects with a focus on mastery of individual studying skills, personal communication, and public speaking. This work involved engaging students from diverse cultures, abilities and motivations to build positive working relationships. I facilitated one-on-one sessions as well as up to 5 person study groups, involving leadership and teamwork between the students. I also learned and implemented new tutoring strategies after participating in on-campus tutor training workshops. Finally, I collaborated with academic advisors, learning specialists and athletic department personnel to communicate and document student-athlete’s progress. I want to be a tutor because I enjoy helping people learn. I can tailor my teaching style to suit your learning style so that you learn as efficiently and effectively as possible. I believe in the old adage that if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, but if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a life time. This proverb guides my teaching style and helps me focus on teach my student not only the right answer, but that answer is right so they can get it right on the test and in life.
