I am a tutor with extensive experience studying and teaching English and history. I graduated from Wesleyan University with a bachelor's degree in American studies and feminist, gender, and sexuality studies. While attending college, I discovered that I enjoyed developing teaching strategies that were easy for students to comprehend. I am comfortable tutoring students in reading, writing, literature, American history, social and cultural anthropology, critical reading, social studies, social sciences, and English. I am also able to help students prepare for standardized tests. My first experience with helping students learn how to write more effectively came as a teaching assistant. My philosophy as a tutor emphasizes figuring out exactly how students think. I enjoy helping students clarify their thoughts. I tend to focus on a reflective tutoring model, which helps students understand how they think. I have a passion for assisting students in coming up with ideas, mapping out the best way to write an essay, and revising the essay once they are finished writing it. I am adept at taking a large amount of information and breaking it down into smaller parts. I believe this is an invaluable skill, and my goal is to help my students develop this ability. In my free time, I enjoy contemporary dance, blogging, and cultural gerontology.
