Experience
Have worked with Boys & Girls Club of Snohomish County for 2+ years. Each day I ran a "Power Hour" where the students would work on homework for an hour and get my help in all subjects. Unsure of test scores for SAT was taken years ago I want to be a tutor so that I can gain more experience in working with elementary students and see their success and confidence build within the school year. I want to be there to encourage students and to help them believe in themselves. I have taken child and adolescent psychology classes, study skill seminars, developmental psychology, social skills class. During my masters program, I have completed at 6 month practicum in an elementary school and am getting ready to spend a year as an intern in an elementary school. I have run three social skills groups where the discussion of dedication to school work, grades, and study habits occurred. I worked with a student individually with ADHD and set up a behavior chart. The data collected showed he had an improvement in classroom participation and completion on work once he had adapted to expected classroom behavior. In working at the Boys & Girls Club, I have been exposed to all school subjects with students ages 5-12. I have had a lot of practice in tutoring them by helping them understand the process of the problem versus giving them the answers.

Hobbies
I love learning new things. Continuing my education is the best thing I have done for myself. School counseling in my passion and I love working with the elementary age group. With helping all students with homework and school subjects, I would get to know who they are and what works best for them. I am able to easily communicate with parents and teachers so that if the student and I find something that works well, it can be used at home and at school. As a future school counselor, I am a natural listener. When a student gets frustrated or feels like giving up, I have the skills to get the back to thinking positive. I am a very strengths based person and always praise students for what they can do versus shame for what they struggle with. I love seeing a student believe in themselves and know they can accomplish things.
