Experience
Education is a very important part of life for me, because learning more about my own native English, as well as becoming fluent in French, has expanded the world for me. I lived and taught in France for a year, discovering more about their culture while working with students in that country. Now, I am a tutor for English as a Second Language, French, and English grammar and writing. I earned degrees in English from Carleton College and the University of Oregon, and I have experience teaching a wide age range, particularly kindergarten to second grade, sixth grade, and ninth and tenth grade. When tutoring French, I enjoy teaching one-on-one classes, as well as small groups. When I tutor this language, I use games and geography as well as art and food in the classroom, because cultural experiences can help make this new language more real. For younger students, I use entertainment like puppetry, music, and role-playing. With older students, I focus on making the written and spoken language easier to understand by breaking down seemingly complex ideas into simpler pieces. I hope many of my students choose to study abroad, not just to solidify their use of the language, but to enrich their lives.
