Education

Certified, Academic Life Coach, 2103 ESA in School Counseling, City University, 2004 M.A. in Teaching, Seattle University, 1996 B.A. in Psychology, Seattle University, 1994

Experience

I've been in public education for 18 years. Seven years as a teacher and 11 as a school counselor. I have a small private practice called Academic Success Coaching. www.adamASC.com My Academic Success Coaching program will give your student (6th to first year college) more success with less stress. One-on-one sessions focus on building awareness of old habits allowing newer, more empowering practices to increase motivation and success. Academic Coaching equips teens with the skills most necessary to thrive and find ongoing success. Schools teach content and subject matter more than the process of achieving success. School counselors simply don’t have the time to work with students individually to develop the skills necessary for success. My program focuses on life skills that generalize around all subjects while addressing the five main challenges of being a teenager. The techniques are proven effective and come from the principles of Life Coaching.

Hobbies

Adam’s career in education started in 1996 after getting his Bachelor’s in Psychology and Master’s in Teaching from Seattle University. Teaching for seven years, Adam worked with students in all grades through junior high. While he enjoyed teaching students, Adam decided to go back to school to become a school guidance counselor as a way to spend more time working directly with students. His focus turned to high school. In 2004, Adam transitioned from teaching to counseling and has spent the past eleven years as a high school and elementary counselor. Academic Life Coaching was the next big turning point for Adam. While he enjoys guidance counseling, he finds Academic Life Coaching with students to be much more student centered and empowering. Public schools just can’t offer the time and follow-through that outcome-based inquiry and Academic Coaching offer to effect real change. Adam lives in Bothell with his wife and two kids. He enjoys riding his motorcycle, kayaking, and playing with their three cats and little Boston Terrier.
