At the time, I wasn't thinking about accumulating volunteer hours, or observing a teacher, or anything long- term, for that matter. I was just doing it because I had some free time and knew that it was something I enjoyed. Now, as an applicant to various Masters in Teaching programs, it is apparent that my time in the classrooms has shaped where I am today. I am still drawn to tutoring for the same reasons: the satisfaction that accompanies the moment of understanding; being around young people; and the challenge of understanding and approaching how different students understand concepts, models, explanations, etc. I consider myself a patient person who listens and communicates clearly, and also someone who understands that the same explanation won't work for everybody. I am able to understand and break down more advanced concepts in more simpler terms. Learning is exciting to me, and enthusiasm is very valuable for a tutor. Finally, I am easygoing and personable.
