Experience
I'm a tutor based in Seattle, Washington, where I enjoy playing music, watching soccer, and making art when I'm not in the classroom. I have my bachelor's degree in physics from Occidental College as well as a masters and secondary math credential. While I love math now, that wasn't always the case for me. In high school, I thought math was extremely boring, and didn't like how little creativity the class allowed. However, as I grew up I began to fall in love with math, appreciating its ability to be used as a modeling tool for just about anything. That's what led me to become a credentialed math teacher. After finishing my education, I worked in the Los Angeles Unified School District for four years. I learned how to connect with my students during that time, and developed a set of tools that have served me well as an educator ever since. As a tutor, I strive to help students understand difficult math concepts in a holistic way. I won't just have your child repeat math exercises. Instead, I will discuss with them and explain to them how math works, implementing strategies from Kagan and Equity and Access to help keep your child engaged along the way. I firmly believe that every student has the ability to master the subject of math.
