Education

I have a PhD from the University of Washington (UW) in Feminist Studies and currently teach college courses. I have extensive experience with writing college-level essays, with high school and college students. Whether to help you pass that required writing course, develop your academic research skills or craft a college-admissions essay, I can help you. Application essays for undergraduate or graduate admissions take time and skill to craft--I can help you write that winning essay! My studies encompass many social science fields including American Studies, Cultural Studies, Visual Culture, Gender Studies, Women Studies, Sexuality and Queer Studies and politics of representation. I have an M.A. in Museology with years of experience working with local museums. My research focuses specifically on helping museums develop strategies of inclusion to broaden impact for all learners. I have taught college level writing since 2010 at the University of Puget Sound and two of the UW campuses.

Experience

I am a college Instructor with over 6 years of experience coaching students through analytic essays, effective reading strategies, academic research and general study skills. I will teach you how to construct and support logical arguments, how to accomplish academic research standards as well as techniques for maximizing your study time. Past writing students have found great success, with several reporting that the techniques learned were the most helpful they had ever received. Students coached have gone on to win scholarships and college admissions with their essays. I have a positive approach to helping you. We will reflect on your personal goals, challenges and resources to develop a customized study plan. Working through this plan, you will receive support for achieving each step of completion towards your goals. I have experience working specifically with both Anxiety Disorder and ADHD students, and can assist in creating inclusive learning plans. I offer a free 15-minute consultation appointment to ensure that we are a good tutor match for your needs. Initial appointments held outside of your home, at local library or coffee shop. Once accepted, sessions in your home are available. Tutor appointments available in 30 and 60 minute increments. Discounts available for 10-package sessions. I accept payment through Paypal, cash or check. Sessions are available in-person in the Seattle area or online through Zoom. No fee for travel to you in the NE Seattle area.
